>> steampunk and history events in the New York metro area
Who We Are:
Things to See and Do:
- The New York City Steampunk Social Calendar - listing all steampunk and 19th century events in the tri-state area, with a dash of science and scientific romance for good measure.
- The Steampunk Map of New York City - a Google map with pins for places of interest to native steampunks as well as visitors from faraway lands (a work-in-progress)
- Augmented Reality Steampunk Map of NYC - designed for tablets, this map uses geolocation and HTML 5 to show you the steampunk site of interest nearest to your current location (works with Google Chrome, Firefox, Blackberry, and other geo-location friendly devices). A work-in-progress.
- Bartitsu, the Lost Martial Art of Sherlock Holmes - the "gentlemanly art of self-defense" was practiced by fashionable men and women in turn-of-the-century London, but when the Bartitsu Club closed in 1902, it was forgotten for nearly a century. Join our monthly training sessions and learn about upcoming seminars and events, as well as the history of this fascinating martial art that has only recently been rediscovered.
- The Nineteenth Century Parlorcraft Circle - promotes the revival or antique textile arts and Victorian parlorcrafts through presentations, research, and a monthly craft circle.
